A shrewd businesswoman and plantation owner, "Queen Emma" is credited for introducing coffee to Papua New Guinnea in the late 1800's. Papua New Guinea has grown into a thriving coffee market and is home to one of our favorite producers, Sero Bebes.
Although Papua New Guinea has often produced more than 1 million bags of coffee annually, the average has dropped below 1 million over the last 10 years. The vast majority of coffee in PNG (95%) is grown in the highland regions near the center of the country. These coffee exhibit the heavy body characteristic of this part of the world along with the savory sweet flavors.
We have been purchasing coffee from PNG for a decade and a half and we love the unique coffees, and you will too.
